Art in its various shapes and forms has become far more accessible with the introduction of markets and shops selling handmade products. The work of Durban artist Terry Angelos has built up a steady following and her work adorns many a local wall. Terry has recently introduced her Art Plates, in which she blends illustration and collage in her signature whimsical style. With creatures and various characters skilfully added to vintage scrap and sewing patterns, the evolution process is inspiring. ‘I love beautiful vintage plates and this seemed like a great way to give them new life, while expressing my creativity on a new surface’, explains Terry. Papery artworks infused with a vintage style of days gone by makes her work interesting and unique. The plates are priced depending on their size and vary from R100 to R200. Terry’s art is available directly from her studio – contact her (firstname.lastname@example.org) to make an appointment or visit Shoppe in Durban’s Marriott Road. Alternatively, she sells at the I Heart Market. Text: Nadia van der Mescht Nadia is a creative consultant who has a passion for locally crafted products.
