Abstract Seating

The Walter Battiss Company

If the idea of ever owning a Walter Battiss original feels far out of reach, you can at least now own a version of one of his greatest pieces in the form of a statement wingback chair. Bearing the bright hues and graphic lines of the famed abstract painter's Water Dogs work, this handsome armchair was conceptualised by furniture design studio Bofred in collaboration with the Walter Battiss Company, a collective that's committed to making Battiss's vibrant work more readily available to the public in the form of prints, wallpaper, ceramics and textiles (you may have seen Mervyn Gers’s Battiss-inspired bowls and plates, for example). The designer chair's outer surfaces are upholstered in raw linen printed with the 1968 painting and its seat and inner backing are covered with cotton in a cobalt blue that simply demands attention.
