Showcased at Salone del Mobile in Milan, Moooi’s latest collection is colourful, swish and diverse Aptly named A Life Extraordinary, the presentation consisted of different areas that each had their own functional appearance, reflecting Moooi’s ideas around interior settings from hotels and restaurants to offices and homes. Designed to showcase the creative luxury of a well-curated life, the collection is innovative and provocative while still having poetic appeal.
A Life Extraordinary features a number of new designs from myriad designers, whose styles range from sophisticated to quirky: Monster Bed by Marcel Wanders has its signature monster face embroidered into the soft, curved headboard; the Canal Chair by Luca Nichetto resembles the bow of a historical ship from the Mediterranean with its striking compositions of contrasting textiles; and the Meshmatics Chandelier by Rick Tegelaar shows the full potential of wire netting.
When it comes to lamps, the Busk Lamp by Frank Tjepkema is inspired by mysterious creatures living in the deep sea and is a source of unexpected, colourful fairy tale light, while the Luna Piena Lamp by Marcel Wanders is a constellation of crystal flakes that reflect and refract like precious jewels.
Kit Miles and Neal Peterson have also designed a new range of sensational carpets in various colourways to bring the whole look together, and Levon Biss’ microsculpture photography shows that even the tiniest elements can have a dramatic impact.
