The world's first cheese conveyor belt restaurant, Pick & Cheese, is a cheese and wine bar offering a range of British cheeses, unique drinks and natural wines.

Located in the bustling heart of London’s West End, at the Seven Dials Market, Pick & Cheese has brought something to the table to change the way its customers enjoy cheese and wine.

Founder of The Cheese Bar, Mathew Carver, explains that the aim of Pick & Cheese is to share British cheese with locals and international visitors, promoting local producers and their fare.

'At Pick & Cheese we want to show that cheese and wine boards don't have to be boring and can be enjoyed by everyone, whether you're dropping in for a quick plate of British cheese and a glass of something unusual, or settling for a cheese flight and a bottle of natural wine,' says Carver.

Having opened on 7 September 2019, Pick & Cheese pairs each cheese with individual condiments and pours from their natural-led wine list.

Natural wines have been selected to be paired with the cheeses on offer due to the minimal chemical and technological intervention in these wines.

The wine experts at Les Caves de Pyrene designed the Pick & Cheese wine list, which includes an option of 75ml pours on some wines, among them a bright Fuchs und Hase Pet Nat from Austria and Benimaquia Tinajas, a Spanish orange wine.

Pick & Cheese serves more than 25 top British cheeses. You are able to start with a lighter cheese such as the buttery Gubbeen – served with sweet and sour pineapple – and then move on to a stronger Rollright with bacon treacle spread, or a pungent Renegade Monk with Earl Grey tea jelly.

Carver also offers his own special cheese experience for those willing to experiment: the signature cheese flights available at Pick & Cheese.

And for those who are in the mood for something warmer, there are off-belt hot dishes available. These range from Halloumi Saganaki with honey, fresh oregano and lemon to Carver's famous grilled cheese sandwiches, made with Cheddar, Cornish gouda, British mozzarella and Stilton.

For those with a sweet tooth, a decadent dessert option is the cheese soft serve with pear coulis, honeycomb and chocolate. The ice cream was created in collaboration with London-based ice-cream parlour Happy Endings

The majority of the restaurant is reserved for walk-ins only, but there are two booths that seat a total of six available for booking requests online.

The Cheese Bar

From humble beginnings, The Cheese Bar has grown from being a single stall located at a small market (Maltby Street Market, located in the UK capital) to becoming renowned for making Britain's best grilled cheese sandwiches from their food truck.

Having sold over half a million sandwiches with the aim of sharing British cheese with the world, The Cheese Bar explains that the aim of their business is 'to share our food with as many people as possible, while informally educating our customers on how great British produce can be.'

Like many contemporary purveyors, they also insist that that the best ingredient in good food is a lot of love. 'We believe that food tastes better when it's made for love, not just for money, and when people  and place are valued as an integral part of the process. We want to introduce communities to the source of their food, and to the people who make it.'

Carver has also announced that as regular events at Pick & Cheese, a range of his favourite British cheesemakers will host talks and events at cheese workshops. 'We’re looking forward to switching on the belt and loading her up with our pick of the country’s most exciting small producers cheeses, as well as hosting our friends from the industry for tastings and much more,’ he says.
