Weekend With Larissa Elliott
Posted: 03 July 2015
Ogilvy & Mather Johannesburg’s senior art director, Larissa’s weekends are packed with the best that her city has to offer.
My ideal weekend kicks off with a visit from my boyfriend, Braam. He lives in Limpopo so I don’t see him much. But when he’s in town we fill our schedules with as many fun experiences as possible.
Our Saturday mornings include a visit to a nearby gallery. I love David Krut Projects and I’m still pining over the Maja Maljević paintings they had there a few months ago. Next up is a stopover at my favourite Hospice shops where I always walk away with a piece of quirky jewellery or some second-hand books. We’re then off to the CBD to check out the inspiring Jeppestown neighbourhood, the graffiti there is pretty Instagram-worthy.

And we can’t leave without a trip to The Sheds@1Fox, where I polish off a plate of Black Sam Smoque’s brisket and a Dragon Fiery Ginger Beer. Next up it’s an ice cream on my balcony at sunset (I love my flat) and then over to Escondido Tapas in Illovo for lots of wine and food.Sunday is a busy day. We embark on a scenic drive out of the city to Magaliesburg for craft beers at The Brauhaus am Damm, and Black Horse Brewery & Restaurant.
Then we race over to StokeCity WakePark for some wakeboarding – we’re newly minted addicts. Afterwards it’s a late lunch and burgers at Rocomamas or The Wolfpack.A perfect view to drink to at Brauhas Am Dam in Magaliesberg. A photo posted by @larissaelliott on
And what’s a Sunday in Joburg without a rooftop party? I’ll pop over to Maboneng’s Living Room with my friend Carla for drinks. But the best part is winding down the weekend with a face mask, homemade cookies and good book in hand.
