Foodies need not despair – we’ve compiled a list of the best food delivery services available during lockdown, so you’ll never have to go without your artisanal sourdough or heirloom veggies

Although supermarkets are open, some of us are missing our weekly trips to the farmers market to pick up our favourite fine foods. Luckily, a number of small businesses have transformed their offering to provide delivery of fresh produce and pantry staples.

In doing so they are supporting local makers and small-scale farmers. Here are some of our favourites.

Granadilla Eats

Granadilla Swim has turned their brand upside down to help entrepreneurs and locals access a much-needed service.Granadilla Eats helps small businesses deliver fresh fruit and veg to locals in Cape Town. Their new delivery service was born out of a desire to help small businesses stay afloat.

Granadilla Eats delivers seven days a week and offers a range of goods to order, including freshly made pasta from Algio Fresh Pasta to Cape Town’s finest baked goods from Woodstock Bakery.

Abalobi, a Cape Town-based business that focuses on uplifting local small fishing communities, is offering their services during the lockdown period. Capetonians can order fresh fish and seafood from Abalobi.

Currently, the delivery service is only available to residents who live in the Southern suburbs and CBD. They deliver whole, scaled and gutted fish to ensure minimal handling of the item in the supply chain.

Goods from Abalobi can be ordered via their app, Abalobi Marketplace, which is available for download on iOS and Android.


Doorstep Dairymen

Offering a range of dairy products like cheese, milk and yogurt, the Doorstep Dairymen delivery service is currently available to Capetonians residing in the Southern suburb.

To ensure contactless delivery, all goods will be left at the customer’s front door and all payments must be done via EFT.


Pumpkin Patch

Sourcing products directly from a number of suppliers, Pumpkin patch  offers fresh produce and other products at cost price, meaning that shoppers can save money when ordering their fresh vegetables, fruits, dried fruits and other goodies.

Pumpkin patch is offering artisanal bread, olive oil, fresh fruit and vegetables, eggs and other products throughout Cape Town and surrounding areas including Stellenbosch and Somerset West.  

Deliveries take place on Thursdays. Deliveries can be placed online


Mbewu Produce

Operating in Johannesburg, Mbewu provides an array of fresh vegetables and produce. As the produce is sourced from the market, all goods are farm fresh. Mbewu caters to customers needs and if you are searching for a specific fresh vegetable or fruit,  Mbweu will try their best to source it for you.

The online store allows customers to purchase fruit and veg in bulk or in prearranged packages.

Buy Fresh

Cape Town’s first online butcher, Buy Fresh is offering delivery of fresh produce, meats and seafood during the lockdown.  

Based in Woodstock, there are a number of delivery routes available.  Buy Fresh also sells a range of treats and snacks along with pantry staples.


Wild Organics

Wild Organics is known for providing fresh produce that is farmed without the use of synthetic fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides.

Wild Organics is offering three different packages that include high quality, organically farmed, seasonal produce. They also offer snacks, dried goods and canned foods.


Terra Madre

Named in honour of Mother Earth, Terra Madre offers the freshest produce straight from the farm. Their ‘lockdown promo box’ includes English spinach, mixed apples and other wholesome goodies at only R450.

Terra Madre also offers a fruit and vegetable bounty box. Their delivery are currently on Tuesday and Friday due to the increased demand.

Faithful to Nature

This well-established brand is known for their -friendly products and during the lockdown Faithful to Nature is offering farm fresh goods delivered to your door. The fresh produce is sourced from local farmers to ensure freshness and sustainability.

Packages start at R370 and you can either order a box for one, two or more. Currently this service is only available in selected areas of Cape Town and Johannesburg.


Wild Peakcock

As a family business born out of the love of fine foods, Wild Peakcock is offering delivery of their premium seafood, meat, pantry staples, chocolate, cheese and vegetables. Wild Peacock prides themselves on ethical and sustainable food sourcing. The delivery service is only available for those residing in Cape Town and the Cape winelands.

Free delivery is available for orders over R1000 and a R50 fee is applicable for orders under R1000.  Orders can be done by contacting or via Whatsapp on 081 872 0851. Wild Peacock will send you their full price list on request.


UCOOK and The Oranjezicht City Farm Market

UCOOK and The Oranjezicht City Farm Market have partnered during the lockdown to provide you with fresh vegetables, meat, artisanal breads, fresh dairy and some other much-loved goods from the market.  Capetonians may be missing their weekly vegetable and food run at the market, but the essential delivery ensures that you will have still have access to all your favourites.

They are offering a range of packages, including options for vegetarians and vegans. The boxes start from R850 and up.



South Africa’s premier and kitchen and homeware store, Yuppiechef is offering essentials during the lockdown period. From a wide range of quality pastas, olive oils, nut butters and a number of other foodie essentials.  

Yuppiechef has also partnered with Wild Peacock to offer a number of food boxes filled with delicious, quality produce.  The boxes are themed, bringing some extra delight to your delivery.
