Spotlight On The Whitley Neill Premium Range Of Gins
This summer, indulge in the tastes of Africa with the selection of small-batch premium gins from Whitley Neill.
Each of Whitley Neill's gins offers up a delicate African-inspired taste, skilfully infused to create an intriguing bouquet and powerful flavours.
One of their gins, the Protea & Hibiscus variant, is exclusive to South Africa, and was recently awarded Gold at the South African Women’s Wine & Spirits Awards, and Silver at the Old Mutual Trophy Spirits Show 2019.
The remarkable flavour profile of this gin marries the two distinctive floral notes of proteas and hibiscus, creating a smooth, easy-drinking and unique gin.
Plus, Whitley Neill have three additional sensational varieties – a softer version of a London Dry, an Aloe & Cucumber Gin, and a Raspberry Gin – available in South Africa, which between them will suit both the traditional gin drinker, and those with slightly more adventurous palates.
Their slightly softer, traditional London dry gin is very smooth, with notes of rich juniper, citrus, pot pourri and an array of exotic spices. Expect a long finish with a subtle fade of herbs, cocoa and candied lemon peel, and the nose is both citrusy sweet and peppery with distinctive floral undertones.

Also inspired by the diversity and richness of the African continent is Whitley Neill Aloe & Cucumber Gin. This handcrafted infusion of cooling, slightly sweet cucumber and subtle hints of Karoo aloe has a mildness of flavour, but also includes a flavourful mix of other botanicals that make for a light, fragrant and well-balanced gin.
Finally, Whitley Neill Raspberry Gin boasts bright flavours from Scottish raspberries that are balanced with distinctive juniper notes. A delicate sweetness rounds off this deliciously vibrant gin.
Just in time for summer we’ve chosen two of our favourite Whitley Neill gin cocktails, each of which is simply perfect for summer days at the pool.
Whitley Neill Gin Summer Breeze
- 3 fresh basil leaves
- 2 slices cucumber
- 15ml agave syrup or honey
- 50ml Whitley Neill Aloe & Cucumber Gin
- 20ml aloe vera juice
- 1 dash lemon juice
- Ice cubes
- Sparkling water
- Cucumber slice, to garnish
- Sprig of mint, to garnish
Muddle* the basil leaves and cucumber slices with agave syrup/honey in a cocktail shaker.
Add gin, aloe vera juice, lemon juice and ice to the shaker and shake until drink is chilled.
Double-strain into a cocktail glass over cubed ice, then top off with a splash of sparkling water. Garnish with a cucumber slice and a sprig of mint.

Whitley Neill Gin Protea & Cranberry Spritzer
- 3-5 fresh blackberries or mixed berries
- 2 shots Whitley Neill Protea & Hibiscus Gin
- ¼ shot elderflower syrup
- 1 shot cranberry juice
- 50ml cherry liqueur
- Ice cubes
- 20ml Prosecco
Muddle* blackberries with Protea & Hibiscus Gin and elderflower syrup.
Add the cranberry juice and cherry liqueur, then shake with cubed ice until cool.
Strain ingredients into a coupe glass over fresh ice cubes and top with Prosecco.
Garnish with fresh blackberries.
* A muddler is a bartender's tool that is used like a pestle to mash ingredients together at the bottom of a glass to release their flavour. If you don't have one to hand, use a pestle or the (clean) back of a wooden spoon.
