Smart Forest City To Be Home To Over 7 Million Plants
The new smart City in Mexico will be home to over seven million plants and is designed as a sustainable haven to pioneer the movement of greener city living
The new smart city will cover 557 hecatares and will be suitable for 130 000 inhabitants. As a forest city, it aims to provide a clear balance between man and nature as it will be home to an estimated 7,5 million plants.
The plant life will cover 400 hectares of the city and will be derived from 400 different species which have been selectd by Laura Gatti, a botanist and landscape architect. THe land is being utilised to enhance nature, it covers a large area where a shopping district would have been built.
In order to provide habitable space for both man and nature to coexist, 2.3 trees per personw ill be planted, resulting in an estimated 260 000 trees while the rest of the greenery will be composed of shurbs and bushes.
In a statement, Stefano Boeri Architetti explains that the areas occupied in the smart city will create the perfect baalnace between green areas and buildings.
'The Smart Forest City will absorb 116 000 tons of carbon dioxide with 5 800 tons of CO2 stocked per year.'
With climate change ravaging the globe, causing natural disasters, the new forest city will aims to make a contribution to decreasing the planets ever-increasing temperature.
The Smart Forest City will focus on technological innovation and environmnetal quality.
Stefano Boeri Architetti comments on their hopes that the city will promote and foster global sustainable goals.
'A center for advanced research that could host all worldwide university departments, international organisations and companies that deal with very important sustainability issues and the future of the planet.'
The Smart Forest City will aim to be fully food and energy self-sufficient due to the ideas by German based engineering solutions company, Transsolar.
In order to ensure that the city source of food and energy is self-sufficient, a ringe of solar panels along with agricultural fields irrigated by a water channel that is connected to an underwater maritime pipe will be implemented.
Water has been taken into careful consideration when designing the Smart Forest City in order to ensure that this precious natural resource is available and used effectively.
A desalination tower is an integral part of the design and will allow for water to be gathered at the entrance of the city in a 'huge basin'. Once the water is collected in teh basin it will be able to be distributed by a system of canals.
A second measure implemented regarding water will be a series fo water gardens which are designed to fight floods and will function as a model for resilient landscapes.
Mobility in Chain has proposed a unqiue transportation system for the residents of the Smart Forest City. Residents and visitors will be able to leave their vehicles at the edges of the city to make use of the internal electrical and semi-automatic mobility mechanisms available.
Stefano Boeri Architetti expalins that the Smart Forest City is designed according to 'non determistic urbanism'.
'Given the big invariannts of urban structure - related to enegery infastructure, mobiltiy and green, to the presence of development and research poles and to the right of each inhabitant to have at its disposal all services at a correct pedestriant and cycling distance.'
