Sleek City Living at The Onyx

Newmark Hotels' newest addition is a harmonious blend of hotel and residential offerings.

The Onyx

In Cape Town, if you are not looking at the mountain or the sea, you are looking at the incredible city skyline. The CBD is the epicentre of food, art and fun in the Mother City and it has an undeniable vibe that you just want to a part of. This energy is what draws people to the city, and for those wishing to reside there, The Onyx is the perfect place. It is in the heart of the city and close to hotspots like Long Street, Bree Street and the V&A Waterfront.

Located in Foreshore, The Onyx is an innovative, mixed-use building that is managed in part by Newmark Hotels, Residences, Reserves & Lodges. Originally the Nedbank building in Heerengracht Street, it was completely transformed by one of Cape Town’s leading architects, Robert Silke and luxury property development company, Signatura. Now it is a contemporary hotel and residential complex that is the epitome of luxe city living. Just by looking at the building's exterior you can see how impressive it is.  The white aluminium-clad balconies are contrasted with slick black surfaces that create captivating curves, which fits the innovative space perfectly.

A little different to your average hotel eatery, MRKT (pronounced market) offers deliciously different meals that you can enjoy in the restaurant or via room service on request. It is the place where hotel guests at The Onyx can enjoy breakfast, but it is also an inner-city restaurant that anyone can visit. With access via The Onyx and the street, people can pop in and grab a coffee or light meal. There is also a bakery that serves fresh, artisanal baked goods, harvest-inspired buffet offerings and a shop where you can buy condiments, ceramics and souvenirs.

The Onyx

In addition to the MRKT, an Asian-inspired eatery will opening at the The Onyx early in 2019. The Onyx's namesake is a rare and striking dark gemstone, and Newmark Hotels did not only model their latest project after it aesthetically, they ensured that every part of the experience is a gem as well.
