Inspired by Clive van den Berg's monumental eland sculpture in Braamfontein, we've picked out a few online decor shopping pieces in neutrals and naturals.

In our annual Art Issue, currently on shelf, our inspiration for the decor shopping pages in this print edition of House and Leisure (August/September 2019) was based on four of our favourite monumental sculptures around the country.
One of these is the iconic eland – by South African artist Clive van den Berg – that is situated at the 'gateway' to Braamfontein in central Johannesburg.
This 5.5-metre concrete-and-plant piece of public art was commisioned to the artist in 2007. The eland is made of 100-percent concrete (with metal reinforcements) and was deliberately created to be filled with aloes, grasses and other plants that change naturally with the seasons. And the outcome is oh-so lovely! It's a truly memorable piece of sculpture that also includes a year-round mini jungle inside.
The weathered tones of the sculpture's concrete material combine to great effect with the plants it contains, demonstrating that neutrals and naturals almost always work beautifully together.
At home, getting this look is a cinch. Allow an unvarnished wooden table or simple wood-framed mirror to set off a collection of lush indoor plants. Or combine natural wicker items with touches of weathered metal – and more plants, including succulents. One of the key rules is to keep all the shapes as naturalistic and organic as possible, as seen below.
