SA's Best Bartenders Go Head To Head
South Africa's most talented bartenders will compete to reach the finale of Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge 2020 National, held in Trinidad and Tobago.
On 16 September, 10 of the country's best bartenders will showcase their innovation and skill in a national cocktail competition held at The Course in Johannesburg.
All the finalists will have to create cocktail with Angostura aromatic bitters, rums and Amora di Angostura. The winner of the national best bartenders challenge will go on to compete in the Africa and Middle East Regional, held in Cyprus on 2 October.
As a global competition, the winner from the Africa and Middle East Regional will have the chance to showcase their technique and flair at the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge 2020 National, to be held on 23 February next year. During their participation in the finals, the national best bartenders will be able to experience the culture of both Trinidad and Tobago as they partake in the country's renowned carnival.
Hosted by Angostura, a leader in the production of aromatic bitters and rum, the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge is a prestigious accolade for bartenders across the world.
It's a stringent entrance process: applicants to the competition had to submit an innovative recipe using Angostura products and create a three-minute video of a rum recipe along with completing the necessary entry documents.
All applicants are required to be Theatre of Mixing Certified, where the applicant undergoes an online test to certify their competency in the industry and must be a fulltime bartender.
A panel of experts in the industry will judge each round of the best bartenders challenge, ensuring that the cream of the crop are chosen for the final.
The ultimate winner of the final will receive a cash prize of US$10 000, the title as the champion of the best bartenders contest and a two-year contract as the global brand ambassador for Angostura. As the brand ambassador, the winner will travel across the world sharing Angostura products while influencing bartenders to experiment with the products available in Angostura's collection.
