Horticulture is one of the most popular hobbies in the world, and there’s always room for sharing gardening inspiration. Whether you’re a green-fingered genius or a hapless planter, a digital helping hand can go a long way towards creating the verdant space you’ve always dreamed of.

Don’t know where to start? Candide is a smart gardening community app that you’ll want to add to your arsenal of tools. And best of all, it’s free.

the root of happiness

A global app developed in the UK but launched first in South Africa, Candide drew inspiration from the social critic Voltaire’s novel of the same name, who wrote that it was our duty to ‘cultivate our garden’ – essentially that a garden symbolises our lives and we should nurture them for a good outcome.

Candide subscribes to the tenet that gardening cultivates wellbeing for the mind, body and soul. With an extensive knowledge base that spans everything you need to know, from plants and pests to problem-solving and how-to guides, this innovative app encourages us all to reconnect with our gardens – and, equally importantly, engage with like-minded growers.
