party perfect: 3 delicious cocktail recipes

A good cocktail is not only nice to drink, it can be a work of art and add to the vibe of any occasion. If you up the level of your event, here are three cocktail recipes to serve at your party.

1. bloody geisha

Prep time: 10 minutes / Mix time: 40 minutes / Serves: 4 Ingredients: 4–8 tots sake 1t wasabi paste 500ml tomato juice 1t Tabasco sauce 1½t soy sauce ½t celery salt 2 limes, cut into wedges black pepper to season 1T dry sherry 4 celery stalks with leaves to serve 8 baby rosa tomatoes Method:  Mix the sake with the wasabi paste and set aside. Combine the tomato juice, Tabasco, soy sauce and celery salt in a large jug. Run a lime wedge around the rim of four glasses, and squeeze the juice into the tomato mixture, adding the skins and stirring to combine. Season with black pepper and adjust the spice and soy sauce to taste. Add the sherry and the sake and wasabi mixture to the tomato juice and stir to combine. Cover and refrigerate for about half an hour before serving. Pour into four highball glasses with ice and serve each one with a celery stalk and two baby plum tomatoes. Note: To make a virgin Bloody Geisha, leave out the sake and the sherry.

2. cucumber basil sting

Prep time: 20 minutes / Mix time: 15 minutes / Serves: 6 Ingredients: 6 tots gin 2T vermouth 2 lemon grass stalks, finely chopped 2 cups loosely packed basil leaves 1 cup fresh lime juice ¼ cup brown sugar pinch of salt tonic water 1 cucumber cut into ribbons basil leaves for garnish Method:  Combine the gin, vermouth, lemon grass, basil, lime juice, sugar and salt in a blender. Blend until smooth. Strain through a fine sieve, into a jug. Add the tonic water and stir through. Fill six glasses with cucumber ribbons and ice. Pour the cocktail over the ice and cucumber; garnish with basil leaves. S

3. lemon herb

Prep time: 24 hours / Mix time: 10 minutes / Serves: 6 Ingredients: 1 cup sugar 1 cup water zest of 1 lemon 8 stems fresh lavender 6–12 tots vodka 2T fresh lemon juice small handful mint 8 sprigs thyme soda water Method:  To make a lavender syrup, place the sugar and water in saucepan with the lemon zest, and heat gently until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat and add the lavender flowers. Set aside to steep overnight, then strain. Place the vodka, two tablespoons of the lavender syrup, the lemon juice, mint and thyme into a jug with ice, and muddle until the mint is bruised and fragrant. Top up with soda water and pour into glasses. Garnish with lemon zest and thyme. Note: To make a virgin Lemon Herb, leave out the vodka.
