14 Places That Should Be On Your Kramerville List
For arts, crafts and artefacts from Africa, and increasingly further afield, there’s nowhere we can spend more time than in the winding storehouses of Amatuli. Start with a coffee at Razor Charlie, Amatuli’s on-site café, or head upstairs to Katy’s Palace Bar before making your way through Amatuli’s treasure trove. 6 Desmond St.
There’s a reason why bulthaup’s offerings are referred to as ‘the Ferrari of kitchens’, and in the brand’s showroom, you get a taste of the precision, engineering and technological innovations that go into each and every one. Be sure to open all the doors to see inside the carefully crafted cupboards, and don’t miss the showroom’s selection of Hans J Wegner chairs. 9 Kramer Rd.
3. Lemon Design
The clean-lined, high-end products on display in Lemon Design’s showroom stand in stark contrast to its warehouse-style space, making visitors appreciate the multidisciplinary design studio’s fantastic attention to detail even more. The showroom also hosts regular photographic exhibitions in collaboration with local photographers and Lemon’s on-site, large-format printing studio. 16 Dartfield Rd.
If you’d like a comprehensive selection of Coricraft’s laidback and affordable designs, a visit to its Kramerville showroom is a must. We also regularly host collaborative Coricraft events here, so follow Coricraft on Instagram for updates about our exciting partnership. 14A Kramer Rd.
Cutting-edge cabinetry and seamless styling combine in the Poliform showroom, where the brand’s much-loved kitchen and cupboard designs are featured in a holistic setting. There are lots of other lustworthy pieces in the store as well, so make time to browse its (beautifully made) shelves. 3 Desmond St.
Caesarstone’s first Johannesburg showroom is a newbie on the Kramerville block, and it’s quickly becoming one of our favourites. It offers a rare opportunity to see Caesarstone’s innovative products in full slab-scale size, as well as a selection of imaginative kitchen designs that provide a conceptual starting point for anyone planning on redoing their own. 10 Desmond St.
7. Donald Nxumalo
The golden boy of local interior design chose Kramerville for his first eponymous showroom, which exudes Donald Nxumalo’s contemporary African aesthetic. Here you’ll find an array of luxurious, modern, once-off pieces that keep South Africa in mind. 14 Kramer Rd.
Hertex is known for producing some of the country’s most on-trend fabrics, and at its store, visitors get a chance to see what these textiles can become when they get the full treatment. With an expanded product line of carpets, cushions and even crockery and cutlery, Hertex is the sort of place that encourages you to think big. 16 Kramer Rd.
9. La Grange Interiors
There are few local brands that capture the essence of the South African lifestyle better than La Grange Interiors, with its Kramerville showroom reflecting our proclivity for indoor-outdoor living. We are obsessed with its Pierre Jeanneret chairs and coloured glass objects, and like the fact that its interesting scatters won’t blow the budget. 69 Kramer Rd.
10. Ligne Roset
If there’s one store that gets our pulses racing every time we’re anywhere near Kramerville, the newly unveiled Ligne Roset space is it. From classic House and Leisure cover stars like the Togo sofa to its newer, even more glamorous pieces, Ligne Roset is quickly becoming a star of the suburb. Make sure you sit on the sofas and chairs – you’ll be hard-pressed to find more comfortable and good-looking items. 10 Desmond St.
Creations by some of the world’s most desirable lighting brands illuminate the Streamlight showroom, whose open-plan space boasts inspiring installations and a distinctly industrial feel. 12. St Leger & Viney
The St Leger & Viney showroom is a heavenly decor haven, complete with Ralph Lauren fabrics, De Gournay wallpapers and samples from some of the world’s most renowned boutique textile houses. We’re also loving its workshops with designers from its brand stable, which give audiences a rare insight into the process that brings these lush coverings to life. 7 Appel Rd.
