Open Studios Returns To Cape Town

Have you ever wanted to discover more about what architects do all day? Open Studios, an event during which architectural practices across a city open their doors to the public, is your chance to do so.

Operating for its seventh year in a row in Cape Town this year, Open Studios offers insight into the lives and work of the Mother City's architecture studios, allowing the public to both peruse the studio spaces and engage with architects, interior designers and urban designers.

This year, a record 17 architecture studios located across the city will be open to the public in an effort to encourage engagement with the built environment and architecture sector.

The participating studios will be open from 5pm to 8pm on 23 and 24 October 2019, allowing the public to visit after work, school or university.

What's more, each studio has tailored its own event for Open Studios that will showcase some of its best built work, as well as future projects, architectural model displays, drawings, films, photography and even virtual reality projects.

Visiting participants will have the chance to see inside some of the most prominent architectural studios in Cape Town and chat to those who work in the industry. As most of the studios are located in the CBD and Woodstock areas, visitors are easily able to visit multiple studios in a single evening.

All ages are welcome to attend, and Open Studios offers a notable opportuntiy for those considering a move into the field of architecture, as it provides insight into what a career as an architect would be like.

As an initiative driven by the Cape Institute for Architecture (CIfA), the aim is to create a social environment where the public can access the local architectural studios and learn more about the industry.

Details of the full programme are available on the Open Studios website.
