Cape-Town based interior-design studio Okha is a firm South African favourite when it comes to finely crafted furniture, lighting and decor. And now the brand has entered the international market, with its exquisite pieces available through StudioTwentySeven gallery in Miami. 'The StudioTwentySeven collection is a rarefied curation of iconic contemporary design,' says Okha creative director Adam Court. 'For Okha to be part of the collection is very humbling and the perfect forum to bring the brand to the US.'

Following the belief that design should 'stir the soul as well as excite the eye', Court's creative vision for Okha is clearly influenced by his passion for art and culture – a passion that is shared by StudioTwentySeven founder Nacho Polo. The iconic collection that he has curated for StudioTwentySeven features furniture, lighting, carpets and accessories by more than 35 design brands, with big names such as French industrial designer Serge Mouille, Danish designer Hans J Wegner and Italian architect Gio Ponti being included in the stellar line-up.

This collaboration with StudioTwentySeven speaks to Okha's creative process as a whole, as the brand works closely with local artists and artisans to produce limited-edition and once-off pieces that range from seating and tables to rugs, lighting and objets d'art

'Design is an emotional medium,' says Court. 'Good design should affect someone emotionally and intellectually as well as being a practical, functioning, well-conceived product.'

As well as creating furniture, Okha is well versed in the art of interiors, with the studio being behind numerous home and restaurant interiors across the country. 'Our design is inspired by an enquiring contemporary aesthetic and timeless classicism, with a deep respect for natural materials and traditional craftsmanship,' says Court. 'We aim to be at the forefront of discerning modern living.'
