Available to Cartel Members Club – part of the Ideas Cartel group – only, Frontier lounge and bar opened its doors at the start of September and offers members a space to eat, meet, work and enjoy a refreshing cocktail.

The atmosphere of the bar is casual yet chic, with deep-buttoned sofas adding an old-school gentleman's club feel, and loads of indoor plants adding a touch of the tropics.

'Our ethos here at Frontier is to take key knowledge from our own and others' travels, to share our discoveries, and in doing so, move away from the borders fo constraint,' says the team behind Frontier.

With no shortage of bars in Cape Town,  Frontier has elevated the concept – gone are the days of a simple and slightly grungy spot that appeases everyone. This new offering sets itself apart from the rest with its stylish and sophisticated interiors.

Forming part of the Ideas Cartel location in Green Point, Frontier is open from 9.30am to midnight daily and offers all-day dining, including breakfast and bar snacks.

Headed up by sommelier, chef and award-winning mixologist Andrew Copsey, Frontier's menu is a  merger of the best local ingredients with artisanal delicacies from all over the world.

Copsey has worked at some of the top bars and resorts in the world, and has created a selection of exceptional cocktails in which his expertise shines through.

Frontier also has a rooftop that's ideal for summer sundowners – and the idea of spending a balmy evening here, with a very cold flute of MCC in hand, is seriously tempting.

Commenting on the as-yet-unptapped potentail for the cocktail scene in Cape Town, Copsey explains that he intends to help put the city on the map for bar offerings.

'I find it fascinating that Cape Town has barely scratched the surface of what could be achievable here in terms of the cocktail scene, given its calibre and credentials in the international marketplace, something I hope to change,' he says.

Ideas Cartel began with Inner City, an office and coworking space that was established in Cape Town in 2013, at a time when the  patterns of work routines began to shift and change in the Mother City.

The group says that founding the Cartel Members Club has established a space for free thinkers, founders and funders to form a community and space in which they can stay overnight as well as work and unwind.

Another new Ideas Cartel project that recently opened its doors is a six-bedroom boutique hotel, the Cartel House Hotel. The new hotel is pet-friendly and aims to revolutionise business travel. And of course, Cartel Members Club members receive special rates if they opt to stay here.
