Leanne Barling of Orms Discusses the Orms Wallpaper Collection
Head of decor printing at the photographic studio, Leanne Barling tells us more about the bespoke Orms wallpaper collection.
Orms may be best known for its digital printing, but now the photographic studio has collaborated with 16 local artists on a bespoke Orms wallpaper collection.
'People don't often associate decor with Orms – they mostly think of photography and cameras,' says head of decor printing at Orms, Leanne Barling. 'But we offer a range of customised printing and exhibiting solutions, wallpaper being one of them.'
'We get a lot of requests for custom-printed wallpaper designs because our customers are wanting something unique for their homes and businesses,' adds Barling. 'The images on stock libraries are often generic and overdone, and our clients are after something more personal, bespoke and locally orientated.'
This led to the decision to partner with 16 local artists on a limited-edition wallpaper collection, with creatives ranging from Andrew Hofmeyr and Aimee Hall to Liffey Joy and Fleur Le Cordeur bringing their personal aesthetic to the custom range.
We chatted to Barling to find out more about the Orms wallpaper collection.
5 Minutes With Leanne Barling of Orms
What sets the Orms wallpaper collection apart from others on the market?
Our wallpapers are scratch-resistant and durable, and are designed for longevity. We have partnered with professional wallpaper installers, so we are able to offer site inspections where we come to double-check the wall conditions and the measurements, as well as provide professional installation services. Our wallpapers come in three textures: textured suede (a luxe velvety texture – great for rich colours and blacks), linen (a canvas-like organic, woven, texture) and eco-friendly (PVC free with woven backing, which makes it perfect for moist areas like bathrooms). All of our wallpapers are printed with genuine Epson inks, which are 100% eco-friendly too.
What are the benefits of using wallpaper versus paint?
Custom-printed wallpaper is a cost-effective way of transforming an entire space. The wallpaper is easy to remove and mess-free, so if you decide to change the design, it's just a case of pulling it off and wiping off the excess glue residue. You also have access to a whole range of designers and artists, which makes the most unique artworks accessible.
On average, how much do Orms wallpapers cost?
The cost per design usage is a flat rate of R1500, and then our textured papers retail at R399/m2 for suede, R354/m2 for linen and R449/m2 for eco-friendly. Installation is charged at R190/m2, and a site inspection is quoted per area/distance.
Will Orms be partnering with more local artists in the future?
Working with local artists is definitely something we see ourselves doing for years to come. At the moment, we are looking to collaborate with artists that have a unique style and point of view, who can bring a creative and personal decor print solution to our incredibly creative and unique clients and their personal spaces. We encourage our existing artists to expand their offerings, and for upcoming artists and designers to submit their potential ranges. We hope that this will be a growing relationship between Orms, artists, designers, interior decorators and our clients.
