#HLDiscovery: Rosé, Rum and Beer

As we slowly get used to working again, little things can help make the transition a little easier. A refreshingly chilled glass of wine at the end of the day or some delicious rum at a gathering with friends on the weekend will definitely do the trick. Here is our #HLDiscovery list of beverages that will keep the festivities going throughout the year.

1. Jean Roi Cap Provincial Rosé

Elevate your rosé offerings with the Jean Roi Cap Provincial Rosé 2017. This premium Provençal-style Rosé from Anthonij Rupert Wyne is guaranteed to take your love for this varietal up a notch. The wine pays homage to Jean Roi, the French Huguenot from Provence who pioneered the L’Ormarins Wine Estate’s 300-year-old viticultural history. Made up of Cinsault, Grenache and Shiraz, the Rosé has refreshing acidity that perfectly balances out its fruit flavours. Boasting a gorgeous pale copper pink-blush colour, and aromas of peach blossom and honeydew melon, it's perfect for summer. The bottle is also gorgeous, making it a great addition to any wine collection.

2. Copeland Rum

Rum has increasingly been getting attention lately, particularly on the Cape Town cocktail scene. One of the brands contributing towards this buzz is Copeland Craft Rum. Produced in a family-owned and family-run distillery in Kommetjie in the Cape Peninsula, Copeland Craft Rum is a great cocktail spirit as it works well with other components. From simple serves such as fresh fruit juices or tonics to a wide variety of cocktail favourites such as mojitos and classic daiquiris, a splash of rum will surely liven things up.

3. Mad Giant Craft Beer

If you're looking for great craft beer, Joburg-based brewery, Mad Giant, is your next stop. Their Killer Hop Pale Ale was named the Grand Champion (overall best beer) at the 2018/19 African Beer Awards – and for good reason. Crisp and refreshing, this beer can be enjoyed any time of year. The Killer Hop is not the only weapon in the brand's arsenal – try the IPA, which is bold and fruity, the Mad Giant Lager, which has biscuit, honey and toffee flavours (finished off with floral hop aromas), the crisp bitterness and sweet finish of the The Guzzler Pilsner and the Electric Light Weiss, which tastes like freshly baked home-made bread with a bouquet of floral, and clove, banana and fruity aromas. To top it all off, they have also decided to battle single-use plastic by using cardboard packaging.

4. Fitch & Leedes Spicy Ginger Beer

What's a good cocktail without a decent mixer? Fitch & Leedes is known for their incredible mixers and now they have added Spicy Ginger Beer to the list. True to brand, this bespoke ginger beer was carefully made to be the very best mixer for cocktails – ideal for rum and whisky, it brings out the sweetness in the spirits, rather than drowning out their flavour, and the spiciness carries through enhancing the drink. It is also lower in sugar than most other ginger beers on the market and, while it was developed originally as a mixer, it's still a great beverage on its own.
