#hldiscovery: air plants, wine, steak and flooring
From floors and plants to dining out, this week's #HLDiscovery list has something for your home and your entertainment. In new discoveries this week, we look at timber floor tiles, a light pendant you can assemble yourself and the newest wine from Nederburg.
1. air plants
Micro gardens and water-wise plants are the responsible way to go in water-scarce times, and air plants tick both these boxes. A diverse range of subtropical species that derive most of their moisture (as the name suggests) from the air, all they really need is a spray of water on occasion. Because they don't require soil or space, they can be shown off in innovative ways. Hout Bay-based company Microgarden sells air plants in wooden blocks that can be mounted on walls, arranged on a shelf, or simply displayed solo in all their micro glory. 2. nederburg air hawk
Nederburg’s Heritage Heroes The Young Airhawk barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc 2016 is a deliciously crisp yet creamy-textured wine that is a perfect match for warmer weather. The Heritage Heroes is a gourmet collection of handmade, ultra-premium wines, each named in recognition of some of the legends who have shaped the winery. The Young Airhawk honours the son of Johann and Ilse Graue: talented young winemaker Arnold Graue, who loved speed, action and adventure. This is reflected in the wine through its complexity. Notes of gooseberry and figs, combined with that creaminess, make it a perfect pairing for slightly spicy dishes.
3. decotimber flooring
Does your floor need a facelift? The new DecoTimber range from DecoBella features 78mmx612mm tiles in three different shades: Timber Burnt, Timber Grey and Timber White. With its darker hues, DecoTimber lays a moody foundation for your space, while variation in the tiles' colouration lends the floor a modern, textured effect that makes it a key part of a room's aesthetic.
