Egg Designs' stand at last year's 100% Design South Africa. The local design superstars will be back again this year. When we think of Africa, we think courage, diversity, creativity and power: qualities aptly reflected in the tone for this year’s 100% Design South Africa, taking place at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Joburg from 5 to 9 August 2016. Well-known branding agency Deep Design is responsible for this year’s look and feel, which brings together bold patterns, vivid colours and geometrical shapes that are reminiscent of traditional African masks and the art of African pattern-making.

This scene features the work of Thandiwe Muriu and Hassan Hajjaj.100% Colour, which is presented by Plascon in association with House and Leisure, is the attention-grabbing main feature awaiting guests in the foyer. Cathy O’Clery, 100% Design South Africa’s programme director, explains that 'the concept is to explore the use of colour in design across the continent' with reference to the four compass directions and corners of the continent. Remaining with the pan-continental theme, the show will exhibit the newest works by some of Africa’s most talented creatives. The Handmade in Swaziland exhibition returns to showcase Swaziland’s finest handmade goods, while other attractions include the Picture Africa fabric and photography exhibition and digitally printed collaborative patterns masterminded by O’Clery herself. ticketpros.co.za. 100percentdesign.co.za or email 100percentdesign@ThebeReed.co.za for more information.
