enjoy a winter feast at the breedekloof soetes & soup festival
Posted: 12 July 2017
There's nothing quite like a bowl of hearty soup when the cold weather hits, and from Friday 21 July to Saturday 22 July, Breedekloof Wine Valley is having the ultimate winter warmer festival. Soetes & Soup is a lively celebration hosted at various wineries in the Rawsonville, Slanghoek, Goudini and Breede River areas, and a calendar favourite for locals and visitors alike. Cheeseburger, mushroom and port, eisbein, biltong and blue cheese, chicken curry, Mexican meatball and waterblommetjie are just a few of the unusual flavours being served up at this year's festival, where you will be treated to complimentary cups of steaming homemade country soup accompanied by a glass of red or dessert wine. The festivities will include live music, interesting stalls and plenty of kid-friendly entertainment. And if soup doesn't quite cut it, many of the estates will have traditional country cuisine like roosterkoeke and sosaties on offer. We're particularly looking forward to sampling Shiraz ice-cream at Kirabo Private Cellar, enjoying the chocolate soup and port tasting at Bergsig Estate, indulging in a five-course pairing dinner with celebrated chef Pete Goffe-Wood at Bosjes Wine Estate and visiting the Opstal Vars farmers market at Opstal Estate & Restaurant. If you still need convincing, wineries will be offering discounts on their wines over the weekend, providing a great excuse to stock up. For only R150, a weekend pass includes a tasting glass, soup mug, coupon booklet and soup and wine tasting at participating wineries. For designated drivers, R100 tickets are available that don't include a wine glass. Visit Breddekloof's events page for more information.
