‘Tis the season to be jolly, eat plenty, purchase piles of presents and spend ample time with family and friends. With this in mind, the Cavendish Square shopping centre in Cape Town is pulling out all the stops and decking its halls and calendar with all things warm, fuzzy and Christmas-y.
The retail hub is celebrating the season with a range of fun activities and shopping opportunities that are bound to appeal to anyone from the tiniest tot to the greyest gran and grandpa.
Here’s a breakdown of all the Yuletide goings-on:
Christmas Market: 1 – 6 December
This festive bazaar combines the regular Made in the Cape artisan goods market with all the Christmas-related offerings available from the shopping centre’s tenants. Expect a solid array of gift options and pretty things for the home, including textiles, ceramics, décor, jewellery, sculptural pieces and skincare products.
Fabulous Christmas Pop-up Store: 2 November – 31 December
Set up on the ground floor of Cavendish Square opposite Aldo, this jolly store has popped up specifically to provide for all your Christmas needs. The little shop is chock-full with crackers, snow globes, Christmas trees, festive collectables and decorative knick-knacks.
Live Christmas Music: 23 November, 11, 12, 15, 16, 18, 19, 22, 23, 24 December
On the dates above, you can expect cheerful live performances from the Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town, Acoustic Element or members of the School of Rock. These ensembles will delight with many of our favourite Christmas carols.
Photos with Santa: 14 – 23 December
Between 11am and 3pm daily on the above dates, little ones can have their picture snapped with Father Christmas on the ground floor of the centre near the Fabulous Christmas pop-up store. Photos cost R30 each.
Gingerbread Man Decorating: 14 – 23 December
Kiddies with a sweet tooth (are there any other kind?) can mark the start of Christmas and celebrate the season of all things indulgent by decorating their own little baked gingerbread man. This will happen near to the Fabulous Christmas store between 11am and 3pm daily, and like the photo session with Santa, it’s suitable for children between the ages of 3 and 12 years; though, kids must be accompanied by an adult.
