History and Horticulture
Elegance and sophistication are in abundance at The Cellars-Hohenort. From the moment you enter its gates, you know that you're in a special place. The property's rich heritage is respected and preserved, with parts of the building showcasing elements of the orginal structure dating back to the 17th century.
But the architecture isn't the only historic part of The Cellars-Hohenort. Three centuries of meticulous horticulture has resulted in an award-winning garden that will transport you straight into a Jane Austen novel. With 9 acres to explore, there are mutliple delights to enjoy, including a structured garden with a beautiful water feature, several ponds and a rose garden.
The hotel is part of the Liz McGrath Collection and boasts 51 guest rooms and suites to suit your particular needs. There are standard double rooms that offer vistas over the Cape Peninsula from the Hohenort building, or sprawling views over the incredible gardens from the Cellars Main House. The luxury double rooms are Individually decorated in a classic style, and each includes a verandah where you can sit with a cup of tea and enjoy the fresh air. Then there are the suites and premier suites that are the epitome of opulence. Generous in size, with unique signature looks, the premier suites have their own private garden or patio to enjoy. But for the ultimate in luxury accomodation, choose the villas. Hidden away in The Cellars-Hohenort gardens, these stunning properties are equipped with everything you need.
There are a number of dining options at The Cellars-Hohenort, including one of South Africa's top fine-dining eateries, Greenhouse. Run by executive chef Peter Tempelhoff, Greenhouse offers an innovative tasting menu that brings together local ingredients and African fables for an unforgettable experience.
Another option is The Conservatory, where guests can choose to dine in one of three special locations. There is the main dining section, with amazing views of the historical garden with its ancient Camphor trees; the breakfast room; and the terrace overlooking the garden. If you want a drink before or after dinner, The Martini Bar is an elegant spot to sip on a cocktail. Here is where you can also enjoy an indulgent high tea.
No romantic getaway would be complete without a trip to the spa. The Fresh and Wellness Spa has a range of treaments that will leave you relaxed and refreshed.
