Bordeaux on Britannia is the Ideal Beachside Retreat
With its characterful decor and prime position on Britannia Bay's Golden Mile beach, Bordeaux on Britannia ticks all the right boxes.
Situated two hours outside Cape Town in St Helena Bay's Britannia Bay, Bordeaux on Britannia is a dream holiday destination for the whole family. Its location just a stone's throw from the West Coast's picturesque Golden Mile Beach was the major drawcard for its surf-loving owners, who decided to design and build a weekend getaway that doubles up as a luxurious beachside villa that is available to rent.
Since buying the land in 2015, the owners have been extensively involved in the conceptualisation and construction of Bordeaux on Britannia in a project that took just over three years to complete. 'We designed and built our primary home in Camps Bay a few years ago, and we loved the idea of being able to do the same with a family holiday home,' they say. 'We had already drawn rough sketches of exactly what we wanted inside and out.'
Realising the importance of partnering up with a professional with great knowledge of the area's municipality and local suppliers, they called on Leonard de Klerk of L2 Architectural Draughting Consultants to help bring their vision to life. The architecture was designed to showcase the property's breathtaking sea views, and the owners placed special emphasis on creating light-filled interiors that made the most of the magnificent setting.
With its two front-facing sea bedrooms, two back bedrooms on the upper level, and a bunk room that can sleep up to six children, there's no shortage of space at Bordeaux on Britannia, and every area has been carefully adorned with unique pieces inspired by the owners' travels. From Moroccan carpets and woven lamp shades to white walls and light wood furniture, the result is a charming West Coast meets Mediterranean aesthetic infused with personality.
As for its name, Bordeaux on Britannia is inspired by its owners' love of wine – and the fact that they blend their own red Bordeaux-style wine each year. 'The cellar includes a branded wine barrel and of course, our own label,' they say. 'About 200 bottles of the first vintage, called Maiden, were recently stacked in the cellar, and each group of guests to Bordeaux on Britannia will receive a complimentary bottle.'
Added extras at Bordeaux on Britannia include a table tennis table, heated pool, free WiFi, daily housekeeping and an after-dining service. 'We have employed an experienced guesthouse manager to greet the guests, set the tables, light a fire, and perform general management and housekeeper duties. We’d also like to offer guests the opportunity to have him drive them if they want to enjoy a boozy lunch or dinner in Paternoster or in Port Owen,' the owners say, which is just another reason why Bordeaux on Britannia is the ideal beachside retreat.
