A number of top florists worked together to create a floral arch around the entryway to Huis Vergenoegd, a retirement home in Paarl. Six hundred bunches of flowers were used including dahlias, lisianthus, amaranthus and garden roses from Adene’s Farm Flowers to create the head-turning installation.

In light of the current COVID-19 crisis, the floral installation has provided a much-needed blossom of happiness for the residents of the home.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Adene  Nieuwoudt from Adene’s Farm Flowers says that the flowers were originally intended for use at weddings. ‘The flowers had to go to many weddings this week in the peak of the wedding season but all weddings and functions are cancelled because of the horrible COVID-19.’

The florists who collaborated with Adene’s Farm Flowers to create the beautiful display are Anli Wahl, Marcel Augustyn-Clark, Jo-Lize from FloralAffairs as well as KADOU and N Concepts and Designs.

‘You are probably wondering how we made these arches - it was the work of the N Concepts team - thank you Nico - for always being willing to [help].’

The installation has received a lot of praise from the local community.

'Huis Vergenoegd's residents have been under lockdown since mid- March already, but they were allowed to come out onto the empty sidewalk and smell the roses. We had so many tannies and ooms crying because it was so beautiful. We had cars hooting, many necks turning, pedestrians and passersby stopping - these flowers brought so much joy!’ said Adene.
