AURUM Restaurant To Open in Africa's Tallest Building
AURUM will open its doors in the new and tallest building in Africa, the Leonardo. The innovative restaurant aims to redefine luxurious fine dining.
Aptly named the Latin word meaning 'gold', AURUM will open on the 7th floor of the tallest building in the continent, The Leonardo at the end of 2019. The restaurant will offer a modern interpretation of European cuisine with a local flair.
MD and Senior Partner of AURUM, Paulo Santo explains that the dishes offered at the restaurant are a range of nostalgic dishes which aim to engage diners on an emotional level.
“AURUM represents luxury, but not in an intimidating, pretentious or ostentatious manner. Just as gold is timeless in its appeal, we too wish to exist beyond time as a successful, renowned business serving a cosmopolitan African city; the City of Gold,” says Paulo Santo, MD and Senior Partner of AURUM
Opening in December, the new restaurant is aiming to shift the understanding of the concept of luxury from a material perspective to more tangible concepts such as love, warmth and memorable experiences.

Headed by Chef Darren O'Donovan, the restuarant has an ethos entrenched in sustainability. All the produce used at the restaurant is sourced to ensure the purest of flavours. Exotic herbs, vegetables and unique hybrids are sourced from trusted local farmers.
'Don’t over complicate it. Find the best ingredients and make them shine. The beauty about food is that there is no right or wrong – rather, it’s an evolutionary process made perfect across the seasons,' said Chef O'Donovan.
The menu aims to maintain these values entrenched in sustainabiltiy and will curate seasonal plates based on Mother Nature's bounty.
AURUM will use biodegradable packaging, menus and 100% recyclable products and aims to have a near-zero environmental footprint.

'At AURUM, we trade and source honestly, work ethically and serve with integrity,' AURUM said in a statement on their website.
Chef O'Donovan is quipped with a stellar CV of experience and and passion, having worked alongside some of the country's most influential chefs such as Dario De Angeli at Cube Tasting Kitchen.
The Octo Bar offers a more casual dining experience at AURUM and serves woodfired pizza, tapas and a range of snacks. If you are in the mood to induldge in sundowners in the summer months, AURUM's pool deck provides the ideal view of the city skyline, pairing perfectly with their range of signature cocktails.
The Leonardo Building
With a reported height of 234 metres and a total of 55 floors, the skyscraper dubbed the Leonardo Building is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
The gigantic building will house 254 apartments, a three floor penthouse along with five floors of office space. It will also include a herb garden, a gym and several shops.
