In a tasty attempt to spice up winter, this year the V&A Waterfront is running an innovative culinary challenge. More than 25 fine dining Waterfront restaurants have created fusion dishes specially for the challenge, inspired by the vibrant and diverse flavours which represent South Africa’s different cultures. Customers can expect dishes comprising exotic flavours from Dutch to Chinese, Indian to Italian, Portuguese to Malay, French or British, alongside the regular menus at some of the Cape’s most popular restaurants. Participating restaurants include Den Anker, Meloncino, Greek Fisherman, City Grill, Krugmans Grill, Sevruga, Reubens, The Atlantic , The Conservatory, Hildebrand, Quay 4 (Upstairs), Harbour House, Karibu, Tasca de Belem, Jewel of India, The Grand, Quarterdeck (Commodore Hotel), Clipper (Portswood Hotel) and Signal (Cape Grace). A panel of bloggers and food critics has been appointed to visit the restaurants and decide on the Top 8 restaurants. Diners will also have the opportunity to enjoy these dishes, at competitive winter prices, and to vote for the Peoples’ Choice Award. ‘Capetonians can indulge their love for good food, celebrate our heritage and still enjoy an affordable night out at the V&A Waterfront, which is so much a part of the lives of all who live here,’ says Chantelle Cole, Marketing Executive for the V&A Waterfront. On Wednesday, August 29, a gala dinner will be held at the V&A Waterfront, where the Top 8 restaurants will cook for guests and a panel of three celebrity judges. The People’s Choice Award, voted for by visitors, will also be announced on the evening. Customers who order the special fusion dishes will stand a chance to win meal vouchers from all participating restaurants at the V&A Waterfront, as well as tickets to the gala event in August where the Master of the Trade Routes will be announced. The gala evening will showcase the top eight restaurants that have made it through to the finals where they will be judged by celebrity judges. The People’s Choice award will also be announced at the gala event. You can vote for your favourite fusion dish at the restaurant or on the V&A Waterfront’s Facebook page, The V&A Waterfront Master of the Trade Routes Culinary Challenge will run from June 1 until August 22, with the specially created fusion dishes on offer at the restaurants until the end of August.
