Do you like a glass of wine served with your wool? You can be part of a great knitting initiative that’s going to kick off soon in the Mother City, to produce 1 000 blankets for orphaned babies. On 14 May 2012, maternity brand Me-a-Mama launched this very worthy charity drive, with a clever idea to get locals involved in the project. Whether you’re a keen knitter or have looped the occasional stitch, they’re inviting anyone to join in and lend a hand at some of the city’s trendiest spots. This makes it less of a task and more of a social event, where you can enjoy a glass of wine amongst friends, while still making a significant contribution to the cause. If you’d like to join in diarise the below dates and be sure to pop in:
- 12 June 2012: Head to Knead Bakery on Kloof Street at 6:30pm for an hour of wine, tapas and nocturnal knitting.
- 3 July 2012: Visit the Alexander Bar at 37 Strand Street, for an hour of fun and nocturnal knitting.
In addition to these exciting knit-a-thons, there is another way that you can put those knitting needles to good use. Elle Yarns is donating wool and needles which will be placed in tubs in cafes, hairdressers and waiting rooms across Cape Town – simply pick them up and knit for as long as you want and place them back in the tub for the next person to carry on!
