If you’re a devoted follower of Dutch design who gets excited by labels like Droog and Artists Not Armies, then you’ll be thrilled at the news that a select handful of famous Dutch brands are now available in South Africa. House and Leisure recently attended the opening of the Label Orange showroom in Cape Town, which will be the exclusive distributor of these and other ‘orange’ brands. Owned by Creative Director Choi Mi Chung and Managing Director Jonathan Ursem, Label Orange was initially established in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Describing themselves as ‘the new one-stop agent for Dutch contemporary fashion and lifestyle brands in South Africa’, we found the Label Orange showroom to be filled with wonderful products that are both practical and gorgeous. One of the ranges that we simply couldn’t tear ourselves away from was the Cowboysbelt and Cowboysbag collection. Starting off in 1980 as a belt manufacturer, it was Cowboysbelt that first made a name for itself in Amsterdam. Their handmade and specially treated belts are each beautifully crafted from premium bridle leather, imported from Italy and India. Rather than having a literal connection to the boots and leather-clad figure in Western films, the ‘cowboy’ reference instead implies an innovative approach to design and their ever-reliable, sturdy collection of belts. As the label grew, so did its product line, and a stunning range of bags were introduced in 2002 under the name Cowboysbag. This too comprises an immaculate range of genuine leather products that will make any bag lady’s heart soar. The belts are priced from R350 to R990, while the bags retail between R1 000 and R2 900. The Dutch duo is currently scouting out partner stores in the Mother City where the belts and bags will be stocked, so keep your eyes peeled… In the meantime if you have any enquiries contact the team on firstname.lastname@example.org or visit labelorange.com for more details.
