This week I’ve spotted a couple of items that I’d love to have in my own home. They don’t represent any particular style, pattern or theme – in fact they don’t bear any similarities to each other at all, but I just like them! James B Hannah’s limited edition Villaesque lamp tops my list. In August this product was part of a collaborative showcase of Cape Town-based furniture designers and manufacturers. The Western Cape Furniture Initiative was held at the Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock and offered some interesting designs doing the rounds. James’ quirky bright red lamp will work as well in a minimalist space or corporate office as it will in a more eclectically decorated home. I’ve picked the life buoys, not for practical reasons, such as actually being used in the swimming pool, but rather for the way they look grouped together. The buoys from La Grange Interiors – stacked one on top of the other – have a weathered look that adds character to an otherwise utilitarian item. Finally, the Dove baskets double up as a storage unit for something pretty yet practical. I’m always looking for items that help me clear up my clutter and organise my life. This one by Magis is inconspicuous and can be wheeled around, making it quite nifty. It looks as good empty as it does full. Let us know which designs or objects you’re eyeing right now.
