Couch + Interiors has been a force in the Durban decorating scene for 17 years and their retail space in Windermere Road has become a source of inspiration for many a passer-by.
The courtyard space behind the shop has recently been transformed in to a cafe which has quickly gained many loyal customers. Guests are welcomed with a smile and an invitation to relax with a magazine and the sound of trickling water. With its shabby chic decor, Couch Cafe is a testament to the talent of the team of interior designers at Couch + Interiors. Surprising details such as old wire garden chairs painted chartreuse, bright red buttons contrasting with the mustard upholstery on the occasional chairs, and a sunshine yellow wicker chandelier, give this space a fun and quirky aesthetic which is delightful.
Delicious, decadent food is on the menu and eco-consciousness is high on the priority list. Knives and forks are wooden and the coffee cups are paper whilst recycling bins are used to separate waste. The recycled theme is extended into the furniture and accessories through the use of beautifully re-upholstered ball-and-claw chairs and cushions made from old flour sacks. A strong sense of place is also created through the clever use of iconic South African branding in the art on display, against the backdrop of a scarlet sideboard.
Couch Cafe is at 415 Windermere Road, Morningside, Durban and is open on weekdays from 9am – 5pm and from 9am – 1pm on Saturdays. 031-312-5999. For more information see couchinteriors.co.za.
