The 2012 House and Leisure Food issue has been the topic of conversation in foodie circles for the past few weeks. To celebrate the issue we caught up with some well-known local food personalities to chat about the issue, and their love for food in general. First up, we chatted to local food blogger, stylist and photographer, Alida Ryder… (Hashtag: #HLFood) @houseleisureSA Hi Alida and thanks for joining us to chat about #HLFood. @SimplyDelishSA Hi there! Only a pleasure! @houseleisureSA With all the foodie buzz around the #HLFood issue currently on shelf, what was your first impression of the magazine? @SimplyDelishSA I loved the creative cover and the way the book was divided into ‘chapters’ (and of course the beautiful photography)! @houseleisureSA Fantastic. Do you have any favourite recipes that you’re dying to try for yourself? @SimplyDelishSA The Squid and Chorizo Salad (page 22) and the Lamb Shank, Anchovy, Red Onion Marmalade, and Boursin Pizza (page 90) most definitely! @houseleisureSA Great choice, both of these dishes are packed with flavour! We’d love to know what you’re cooking this weekend? @SimplyDelishSA I’m going to a few braais and events so I’ll be doing salads and side dishes. Maybe a dessert or two. @houseleisureSA For a twist, try our Salad of Crispy Pork, Avocado, Fennel, Ricotta and Walnut (page 21). http://t.co/XhgpqNgW @SimplyDelishSA Yes, and I’d also love to give the Sweet Potato, Green Bean and Pomegranate Salad a try! @houseleisureSA That is a fantastic vegetarian option and is still extremely tasty. http://t.co/5JnWLdnv @SimplyDelishSA Absolutely! @houseleisureSA Salads are a great option for warmer days, and they don’t necessarily have to consist of bunny food. @SimplyDelishSA I agree. I often opt for filling salads on days where the heat of the kitchen is just too much to bear. @houseleisureSA Do you have any of your own special salad recipes that you enjoy making for your family? @SimplyDelishSA I love a good Chicken Caesar and then my absolute favourite is this summer salad. http://bit.ly/wANH7N @houseleisureSA Wow, it looks like an interesting combination but really intriguing. Love the blue cheese and avocado! @SimplyDelishSA When I serve it, I usually get some strange looks but everyone falls in love with it as soon as they taste it! @houseleisureSA Looks delish! Finally, is there anything you’d like to see more of in our next #HLFood issue? @SimplyDelishSA I think the arrangement of recipes is really great. If anything, I’d like to see more easy-entertaining stuff. @houseleisureSA Thanks for the suggestion 🙂 We hope you enjoy cooking from the issue. Thanks for joining us for the foodie chat. @SimplyDelishSA I’m sure I will! Only a pleasure.
