As you may have noticed from our recent Instagram posts and of our beautifully dark #HLBWIssue, we’re currently obsessed with black, white and all things monochrome. But while black and white is certainly a strong feature in our July 2017 issue, we’re also highlighting glamorous renovations, so we’re combining the two with an inspirational picture guide to updating your home with a limited colour palette.
This luxurious and sophisticated dining room reflects a clear passion for contemporary design. As seen in the dark-stained timber and black accessories, the room embraces moody hues accented with stone, wood and metallic details.
With its minimal, no-frills approach, this kitchen epitomises the clean-lined, monochrome aesthetic. Warm, wooden Mid-Century Modern chairs stand out against inky cabinets, and glossy pendant lights show that modern fittings can be mixed with antique pieces to add interest to a space.
Black-on-black styling gets given a lift with gold, brass and copper touches, as seen in this Mondrian Murano glass chandelier by designers Melissa Lunardi and Massimo Tonetto of VeniceM. Thanks to its inclusion of texture and pattern, this living room is welcoming despite its sombre colour scheme.
Modern and edgy with a strict black-and-white palette, this home office proves that monochrome decor can make a small space seem bigger and less cluttered. Bold and geometric shapes create interesting silhouettes that direct the eye and transform this work space from wan to wow.
There’s something so appealing about an inky bedroom, especially one as sophisticated and seductive as this. Black walls and floors give the room a cohesive feel, while delicate gold and copper accessories provide a gleaming contrast.
In Karen Roos’ Babylonstoren home in the Western Cape, a black-and-white Agape UFO circular freestanding bath acts as a centrepiece in the large bathroom, which includes monochrome marbled floors and white walls. A gold drinks trolley adds to the swish effect, reiterating the fact that black and white needn’t be dull and boring.
