We were surprised to have discovered, this morning, that the house we featured on the cover of House and Leisure‘s Luxury Issue, currently on shelf, is on the front page of one of SA’s major newspapers.
A story in Die Burger, today, featuring our cover, alleges that the owner of the house, Herman Pretorius, was in the process of being investigated for his involvement in a massive pyramid scheme a swindle of many innocent people’s funds (including pensioners) of R1.8 billion. Until he shot himself and his business partner.
As SA’s leading home, decor and lifestyle title, we are excited and inspired by beautiful homes and do sometimes feature houses without the presence of their owners. In the case of these images, we had no contact with, and had no idea who the owner of the house was. For this particular house feature, we bought the rights to publish the pictures and the words, as a package, directly from a Swedish-based photographer, James Silverman. At no time did we have contact with the owners.
The piece was written by the Editor-in-Chief of Dwell, an international title.
Had we known any of the background story of this house, we would certainly not have featured it and our hearts go out to all the victims of this awful fraud.
