The creative trio of MAKERS OF STUFF have combined organic lines and natural materials in the design of their Cloud Light. Inspired by packaging design and the art of origami the girls at MOS have crafted a light that makes a subtle statement with pale wood and fluid lines. And what’s more…it’s 100% locally made in Jozi. Handmade using pink beech wood and bamboo it has been finished off with red braided cable for that designer edge. The Cloud Light’s warm glow comes from the staggered cuts made in the wood as well as the 40 watt vintage style filament bulb used. So it’s low on energy and looks good too. MOS is a design team made up of three girls, each of whom practices different design disciplines including branding, events and photography. Their aim is to craft products that are local, affordable, well made and ecologically minded, with a nod to their own tastes. They are documenting their pop-up store progress on MAKERS VS SPACE. If you’re heading in the direction of Parkhurst, stop to admire the Cloud Lights in the window of Modernist on 4th Ave. The Cloud Light retails for R5 000 and measures 750mm wide by 350mm high.
