This month STR.CRD – the leading urban youth culture event in fashion, music, sneakers, graffiti, skate and dance in Africa – returns to the revamped Maboneng Precinct in downtown Johannesburg. Taking place from 27-30 September 2012, STR.CRD will open on Thursday with the exclusive, invite-only HGH.STR – a gallery-style fashion presentation that focuses on bespoke and exclusive products. On Friday and throughout the weekend, partnering brands will launch their Spring Summer 20122013 campaigns, and will have pop-up shops with limited edition collections available for purchase. MUTTA Shoes are one of the partnering brands at this year’s STR.CRD. The custom-made Brazilian footwear brand is headed up by 22-year-old product design student, Matheus Simões Pires. ‘After meeting Matheus on our European tour, we found it obvious that we needed to invite him to STR.CRD 2012. As a ‘New Entrepreneur’ his story serves as an inspiration to African youth at large about how we can create sustainable small businesses using our passions as a launch pad,’ said Hardy McQueen, STR.CRD founder. Staying with tradition, STR.CRD will once again host STR.SESSIONS – a collaborative platform for local and international business owners and artists. Attendees will be able to engage with one another and share experiences and knowledge. In addition to selling and taking orders at the MUTTA Shoes pop-up shop, Matheus will facilitate an open forum designer engagement with STR.SESSIONS attendees on Saturday, 29 September 2012, at OPEN from 3-5pm. Music lovers will enjoy performances by Jesse Boykins III from the U.S., Just A Band from Kenya and local artists at STR.MUSIC. Other highlights include: STR.DANCE, STR.GRAF, STR.SKATE, STR.SNEAKERS and STR.BBALL. Tickets are R120 (pre-sold) or R150 (at the door). You can purchase your tickets from webtickets.co.za.
