We’re lusting after Gerhard Schoonraad’s sisal wood light pods. Not only do his creations have a pure and organic aesthetic that speaks to nature, but the wood is sustainably sourced right here in our own backyard. Grown in the Karoo, the sisal tree provides a unique medium with which to work. Once the trees have died they are chiselled and carved into shapes that remain true to their nature. ‘Every light I design has a character of its own, as nature to a great extent determines the shape and size,’ explains Gerhard. Inspired by the organic Gerhard’s company Karooworx believes that nature still provides the best design driving their finished product. Also part of his collection are the sisal wood vessels which come in all shapes and sizes. Prices for the Sisal Wood Light Pods start at R750 and go up to R4 000 for sizes from 20cm to 3m.
