We live in an age where health, beauty and fitness have begun to merge with high design. The new Lume Beauty Atelier is an example of how these elements have intermingled in Cape Town.
Based amidst the cobbled streets of the De Waterkant neighbourhood, this combined hair salon, nail bar, treatment spa and colour lab is the work of the ARRCC interior design studio (part of the renowned SAOTA architectural firm), who met owner Jenny Kouwenhoven’s brief to create a novel beauty experience in Africa. The team balanced a sense of vibrancy and energy befitting of the boutique’s bustling urban locale with a feel of tranquility that lends itself to relaxation. This was achieved through the careful juxtaposition of dynamic repeating graphics and lustrous surfaces with calming greys and whites in the form of veined marble.
Against this backdrop, you’ll find French oak panelling, luxurious shades of rose gold and brass, state-of-the-art lighting and mirrors that enhance the sense of space. Custom-made shelving, premium Italian leather furniture, stone basins, glass taps and water features complete the picture.
Of course, you can expect the services offered to be of a similar standard – leading international products from brands like Biologique Recherche, Oribe and OPI are used and the treatments are the ultimate indulgence. But simply walking into the space and being surrounded by such elegance is an experience that will likely leave you feeling as pampered as any of the offerings will.
