The team behind Paul Smith in South Africa, Anthony Keyworth and Richard Shaw, have just opened Loom, a new menswear store along Parkhurst’s lively 4th Avenue strip. Offering a limited collection of street apparel and high-end fashion, Loom is home to a handpicked selection of internationally renowned brands that have attained cult status among the fashion cognoscenti, such as Sixpack from France, Denim Demon from Sweden, Commune from the USA, Denham the Jeanmaker from Holland, and the most enigmatic of labels, Comme des Garcons. If that sounds a bit too foreign for the South African man, Keyworth and Shaw stress that men will find staples such as jeans, casual shirts, t-shirts and shoes as well as accessories, collectibles, chocolate and coffee – all delivered with style and panache. It’s a store for men only, but it is so simply and beautifully lit and laid out that even women will want to linger. Loom’s shop space is intentionally minimalist, with bold shop fittings and excellent lighting. The focus is, of course, on the clothes. Pop in and have a look at Loom, Shop 22, Corner 4th Avenue and 10th Street, Parkhurst, Joburg.
