Kirstenbosch Gardens has just unveiled an accessories collection to rival its own natural beauty. Several award-winning local designers were selected to immortalise the garden’s natural treasures in celebration of the garden’s centenary year. The collection, consisting of necklaces, brooches, earrings, bracelets and even a hair clip, was inspired by the diverse fauna and flora found in the gardens. The showstopper is undoubtedly the Protea tiara designed by Emile Pitout and Rob Burton. This piece features diamonds, pink sapphires, pink tourmalines and tsavorites to mimic the beautiful colours found on our national flower. The entire collection will be on display at the Cape Grace Hotel from 26 May until 17 June 2014. All pieces will be auctioned off on 17 June 2014 at the Old Mutual Conference Centre at Kirstenbosch. Proceeds will go to the Botanical Society of South Africa, a non-profit organisation that supports conservation education.
