Bring some leather into your life with Kushn’s beautiful, African-inspired laptop sleeves. Greer Valley and Thembalezwe Mntambo are the creative force behind Kushn, a Cape-Town based company that they started in March this year. Kushn’s aim, says Greer, ‘is to create functional yet fashionable bags and accessories inspired by the look and feel of vintage leather bags with an African twist’. Hence the use of Ghanaian print cotton fabrics (‘we love the colours and geometric shapes’) to accent and line many of their products. They work primarily with leather, due to its ‘tactile, durable qualities and the versatility it offers in the design process’. True to their ethos of remaining culturally rooted yet globally engaged, Kushn sources all of their materials themselves from local suppliers and they work with experienced leather craftsmen and seamstresses to produce each piece, locally. Their current range includes: • 13- and 15-inch laptop sleeves for MacBook Pro, MacBook, MacBook Air and PCs with similar dimensions. Customised sleeves are also available. • iPad sleeves • Card holders • Coin purses Kushn products are available online from their Etsy store and will be stocked in selected stores in both Cape Town and Joburg from November.
