Straight from the heart, we’re loving über-talented jeweller Eon Hoon’s latest creations. Each of the delicate hearts is made of white stoneware clay, shaped into little hearts from a master model. As Eon explains, ‘This also means by taking them out of the model, each one of them has a different curve and shape and no two are the same.’ Each one is then fired, glazed and set on the backing, also made by hand. Although the designs are simple, each heart reflects a different shape and form, giving it that individual touch. Eon cites the honeycomb design as a personal favourite. When asked what inspired the range, he says, ‘I have always had a love for clay, which I used to play with when I was younger. So I’ve been wondering how I could add these hearts to my jewellery.’ The hearts come in blue and green oxides, underglaze drawings, cobalt glaze, 22ct gold glaze or pure platinum glaze. They’re also available in silver and gold to order. The backings are made of antique brass and to personalise each pendant, you’ll find Eon’s logo stamped on the setting when you turn it around. Before graduating with a BTech in Jewellery Design and Manufacture, Eon’s talent and potential was acknowledged during his studies when he won the 2005 PlatAfrica’s most creative design award in the student category. He’s been creating heart-felt jewellery ever since and will happily make a once off piece for a client, should you have specific request. These intricate ceramic hearts retail for R250 from The Fringe Arts at 99B Kloof Street in Cape Town.
