Featured as a definite must-see in our September Spring issue (page 50), the new Entrepo group of stores offer South Africans access to European, Scandi and Asian designer decor brands right here on our home territory. The internationally sourced items all have similar qualities, being ‘clean-lined, functional, sustainably aware, of a superior quality and reflecting a strong sense of heritage’.
With modern design as a key focus, it’s hardly surprising that their range of products appeals to such a wide market. We recently spotted this Muuto OTO100 storage system by young, up-and-coming Scandinavian designer, Pil Bredahl. A clear example of how lifestyle often dictates design in today’s world, Pil says, ‘The storage system is made for the modern nomad and inspired by the fact that we move more often in our lives than ever before’. And because it’s conducive to packing and unpacking your goods, it’s been sculpturally designed so that you can assemble your own pattern of rings.
Made from fibreglass and textile bands that hold the tubes together, the rings can easily be manoeuvered and separated to create the desired effect in your living space. As Pil adds, ‘When it’s not used for books, magazines, clothes, etc., it can lie on the floor, each ring inside the bigger ring, creating a beautiful pattern.’ We couldn’t agree with her more that it has great potential to be a unique, decorative design feature!
The Muuto OTO 100 storage system, available in warm white and graphite black, is also part of her impressive permanent collection at the Danish Design Centre.
