WHERE Scarborough, Western Cape

WHAT This charming stone-clad cottage is set amid a wild fynbos garden, in close proximity to the beach in an unspoiled conservation area. There could be no more idyllic a holiday home for designer Ingrid Corbett, the owner of Cape Town decor store Quirky.Me, and her energetic young family, than this light and bright retreat, in which the only rules entail relaxing and having fun. At the heart of this vibrant home is the open-plan, double-volume living and kitchen space, with its scribbled-on blackboard wall in bold contrast to the off-white painted rooms, gleaming pine floors and exposed beams. Stacking doors open onto a balau deck, a favourite spot in which to unwind.
