With names like Gelato, Earl Grey and Scrambled Beds, Jess Binns’ upcycled pieces are capturing the imagination in her new hometown, Durban. The ‘Found and Fixed’ series, as the name suggests, is a collection of furniture pieces in dire need of rejuvenation which Jess has recreated into items that can proudly take centre-stage in your home. Her bold use of colour enhances natural design elements and details while still staying true to the original form of the furniture.
Jess recently landed on our shores from the UK and her statement-making work is already gaining a local following. Durban is glad to welcome her impressive array of skills as an interior and architectural designer. Her innovative work, which has a distinct and transitional air to it, shows her exceptional understanding of trends within the spaces we call home. Her international understanding combined with local inspiration makes for an interesting cultural interpretation.
