Now in its second year, SA Cocktail Week (SACW) is set to uncork in the same effervescent fashion as before. A street-style festival, the event has partnered with local bars and international brands to create a magical setting in Cape Town’s De Waterkant.
The week-long festival will begin on 4 November with its grand opening; an occasion that will include pop-up bars, interactive cocktail activities, food stalls and live music. Visitors can experience condensed versions of popular Cape Town bars such as Asoka, Twankey Bar, Orphanage Cocktail Emporium and Café Caprice, while sampling the fare of skilled mixologists as they whip up signature cocktails made with partner spirit brands like Tanqueray, Monkey Shoulder and Bacardi. Drinks are kept affordable, with tasters priced from R15 to R30, and a range of pasta dishes, pizzas, burgers and sushi will ensure that stomachs are kept well lined. Since the event itself is all about interaction, attendees can vote for their favourite cocktail in different categories throughout the evening. The event also supports the #refusethestraw campaign, and no straws will be offered with drinks.
For the remainder of the week, festival attendees are encouraged to visit as many of the 10 partner venues as possible, using their SACW wrist band to attend SA Cocktail Week feature events and redeem their 50% discount on signature cocktails. These drinks are designed specifically for the week, and will be available only to people with a valid wrist band – which will be handed out in exchange for tickets at the grand opening. In further celebration, SA Cocktail Week has partnered with Machangulo Beach Lodge to send one lucky couple on an all-inclusive getaway to Mozambique. Attendees are automatically entered into the draw on purchase of their ticket.
With emphasis placed on quality over quantity, SA Cocktail Week aims to introduce festival-goers to the finer side of libation through education, experience and enjoyment. Not to mention a few expertly crafted cocktails.
SA Cocktail Week launches on 4 November 2017. Tickets are available via Webtickets. A percentage of all proceeds made will be go to Hidden Falls, a foundation that uses outdoor and group activity to empower youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. All events attendees must be 21 years of age to participate. ID will be checked.
