Doughnut lovers, rejoice! Earlier this week it was announced that Krispy Kreme will be opening its doors in South Africa. According to Eat Out, the global franchise has plans to open 31 stores in the country over the next 5 years, making the journey to get your hands on a dozen of the brand’s beloved ‘Original Glazed’ considerably shorter.
Of course this is not the first international fast food chain to have made its way to our shores in the past while, and it probably won’t be the last. Here are a few other options we’d love to have in future:
1. Shake Shack – USA
What initially started as a single hotdog cart in Central Park is now a modern day ‘roadside’ franchise that still boasts long queues at some of its outdoor NYC venues during the summer months. Serving up delicious 100% Angus beef burgers, crinkle cut fries, hotdogs, ales, shakes and frozen custard, we wish this chain would come and shake it down south!
2. Toast Box – Singapore
There’s nothing quite like the comfort and simplicity of toast for breakfast, and this Southeast Asian chain delivers just that… with a twist. Choices on the menu include premium quality Kopi coffee and a ‘Milo Dinosaur’ milk drink, which can be accompanied by anything from blueberry french toast to thick wedges of white bread slathered in peanut butter or sugar floss. Banters beware…
3. Spudbar – Australia
Rich in nutrients and a far healthier alternative to pasta, rice or bread, the humble potato forms the basis of the colourful and delicious looking meals on this fast food menu. Options include a tuna melt, pulled pork or Mexican chicken spuds, while shredded cabbage, beetroot and pineapple or chickpea, pumpkin and lentil dahl are amongst the veggie dishes.
