WHAT In the 1970s Fred Schimmel created the Graphic Club as a way to give entry-level collectors access to investment art. For a monthly fee, members were entitled to two works by any of the artists contributing to the club – including Walter Battiss, Lucky Sibaya, Cecil Skotnes and Judith Mason. Now, art lovers have the chance to own an importance piece of South Africa’s Modernist art history. This one-day-only pop-up shop will feature the largest selection of limited-edition Graphic Club prints to be made available to the public, with prices ranging from R1 500 to R60 000 (and many works between R3 500 and R5 000). There’s no entrance fee, and the event will include supervised children’s art activities as well as catering by Cajun Joe’s Food Co. and Go Coffee. It promises to be a lovely day out for the entire family.
