The Bakuba throw is Mungo’s latest gorgeous, gotta-have textile. Named after the offbeat patterned Kuba cloths woven from palm leaves by the male members of the Congo-based kingdom, it’s the weaver’s most African-inspired direction yet.
Rendered in pure cotton, the graphic herringbone weave in alternating colours is striking without being overwhelming. There are three colourways: cobalt, charcoal and grey in double, queen and king sizes.
Like all the woven linen Mungo produces from its mill in Plettenberg Bay, every detail of the Bakuba throw emphasises quality. The brand sources cotton from Swaziland, designs its own patterns and does its sampling on antique 19th-Century Hattersley looms in its working weaving museum. Women from the local community then make up the fabrics in the studio’s nearby boutique weavery.
A feel-good product from a proudly African brand.
